How Wireless Internet Can Save Your Business Lunch

If you are work for a Fortune 500 company or a powerful regional law firm, you probably have had quite a few business lunches in your day. Have you ever wondered what would happen, though, if you forgot to upload your presentation, and what you would do in that circumstance? Well, if you had mobile broadband, you would be saved. Let's go over how it could help, play by play.

Back in the good old days, almost all major business transactions were hashed out over a few martinis and lunch at a swanky restaurant. Nowadays, expense accounts have dried up and pockets have gotten a little lighter thanks to the recession. However, the business lunch is still alive and well, given the human need to eat and the businessman's need to constantly talk business.

So, you have arranged to meet with a prospective client for your company over lunch. You arrive a little early and are seated so that you can prepare for the pitch you are about to make. You get out your laptop, boot it up and realize that you forgot to transfer your presentation from your work computer to your laptop. If you have a mobile broadband card, all is not lost. Before your client arrives, call your secretary or someone at work to have her send the file to your computer through e-mail.

Another way that you would be saved is if you had your laptop and your work computer synched, or interconnected. Or, if you were able to access your work's server, you could also retrieve the file, provided it was uploaded. But whether you go the email route or through a direct connection, it's not possible without wireless access. While more restaurants and eateries are getting wireless internet each and every day, you may happen to be meeting at one that still does not have it.

Perhaps you are eating at a restaurant that has wireless, but requires you to pay in order to have access. Many chain restaurants - not all business lunches occur at 5-star restaurants - require you pay a monthly fee or an egregious one-time use fee. Sure, when the pressure's on and your client is only moments away, you'll whip out your credit card faster than Paris Hilton. However, it's nice to know that you would never need to do so if you had your own personal wireless connection.

Maybe you aren't stuck between a rock and hard place, but instead simply want to kill some time before your client arrives. Whether it's managing your e-mail inbox or updating your Twitter page, you'll be glad you can simply insert your mobile broadband card to do so. Or perhaps the client arrives and asks you to take a look at a Web page. You don't want to look unprepared or appear to be from the Stone Age by having to tell him that you don't have internet access.

Mobile cards are available all over the country. They are extremely affordable, starting at around $30 per month. In addition to business lunches, you can take advantage of your personal wireless connection at airports and coffee shops, which are both notorious for charging for wi-fi.
